Sudbury rail trail committee moves toward stepped-up police enforcement and business outreach

Rail Trails Advisory Committee · Meeting of August 5, 2026

Sudbury rail trail panel presses for police enforcement as etiquette complaints climb. The Rail Trails Advisory Committee on Aug. 5 debated cyclist behavior on the newly opened Mass Central Rail Trail and the Bruce Freeman, with Chair John Drabinski calling for a "more proactive" approach. Member Glenn Pransky said "the evidence is most strongly in favor of getting enforcement or community policing," citing Hudson and Acton as models, while member Laurie Lyson warned "someone's really going to get hurt" if police do not enforce stop signs.

Staff liaison Marsha Rasmussen reported DPW Director Tina Rivard will deploy a fall sweeper program and manufacture replacement uniform signs, and that DEP determined Phase 3's six culverts do not require a Chapter 91 permit. The committee approved July 15 minutes 5-0 and will invite Lieutenant Peredot to its next meeting.
