Sudbury Cultural Council targets August RFP for four Rail Trail art installations
Rail Trails Advisory Committee · Meeting of July 15, 2026
Sudbury Cultural Council targets August for Rail Trail art RFP as Broadacre accessibility work advances. Cultural Council Chair Erica O'Brien and subcommittee chair Diana Sheldrick-Peters told the Rail Trails Advisory Committee the request for proposals for four Bruce Freeman Rail Trail art pads, originally targeted for July 1, is now expected closer to August 1, pending consultation with the Metropolitan Area Planning Council. Preference will go to Massachusetts and New England artists, though the RFP will be open more broadly.
Rail Trail Manager Marsha reported MassDOT has accepted contractor AA Will's punch-list response and considers phase two D complete as of June 30, 2025, with maintenance now transferred to the town. A Massachusetts Architectural Access Board finding still requires Broadacre Farm plaza remediation, including relocation of six boulders and five-foot concrete accessibility strips, approved by the Conservation Commission June 29. Replacement hydration stations are quoted above $25,000.
Committee member Lori Lies pressed on trail maintenance staffing at the Department of Public Works, which received a $25,000 equipment grant. The committee unanimously approved the June 3 minutes.
