Sudbury Historic Districts Commission continues five hearings, endorses $100,000 CPC study application
Historic Districts Commission · Meeting of August 6, 2026
Sudbury Historic Districts Commission continues five hearings, teeing up $100,000 district study. In a nearly four-hour remote meeting, Chair Anuraj Shah led commissioners through solar, window, sign, and barn renovation cases, continuing each to September 3 or October 1 for revised submissions. The commission also advanced a Community Preservation Committee application seeking up to $100,000 to map every historic structure in town, refine district boundaries from the current 300-foot centerline standard to rear property lines, and lay groundwork for tiered review.
Commissioner Christopher Hagger pushed for the study to also identify at-risk historic properties outside existing districts, arguing it should be more "preservation-minded." Homeowner Sebu Arakelyon clashed with Shah over front-facade solar panels at 4 Maynard Road, with Shah insisting the commission is "in favor of solar, but not at the detriment of the character of a historic structure." Preservation Planner Adam Pave suggested converting existing corner signs at Memorial Congregational Church into changeable-message signs, which Shah called "a brilliant idea." The meeting adjourned at 11:04 p.m.
