Rail Trails Committee votes 3-0 against geocaching on Bruce Freeman trail
Rail Trails Advisory Committee · Meeting of July 9, 2026
Sudbury Rail Trails committee votes down geocaching on Bruce Freeman trail. The Rail Trails Advisory Committee voted 3-0 Wednesday to recommend the Select Board not permit geocaching along the Bruce Freeman Rail Trail, citing concerns that participants would wander into wetlands, resource areas or private property. Chair John Drabinski moved the recommendation after member Glenn Pransky reported finding two unauthorized geocaches on Phase 3, one in a resource area, and staff liaison Marcia Rasmussen said Concord had already banned the practice on its section.
The committee also tabled endorsement of a 1,100-pound sculpture at Morse Road after member Laurie Eliza and resident Chris Menge, whose wife uses a power wheelchair, questioned whether the proposed placement would block a future accessible pathway to planned Park and Recreation fields. Resident Len Simon said a four-foot passageway would remain. TEC was named designer of the Parkinson Field driveway project.
