Sudbury Select Board votes no fall town meeting, appoints two to rail trail committee

SUDBURY — July 15, 2025 — Sudbury Select Board cancels fall town meeting, advances rail trail and policy cleanup. The board voted unanimously July 15 to forgo a September-November town meeting after Town Manager Andrew Sheehan reported no articles were ripe and MSBA action on two school roof grants will not come until late October, likely forcing a December or January meeting. The board appointed Chris Menge of 9 Fern Trail to a term expiring May 31, 2028 and Jason Wellemyer of 133 Goodmans Hill Road to a term expiring May 31, 2027 on the Rail Trails Advisory Committee, deferring two associate-member appointments pending a mission statement amendment. Members rescinded 12 outdated policies in one motion, carving out fee schedules and investment policies for replacement. Planning Director Marsha Rasmussen said the Chiswick Park owner has offered the town a roughly $10-a-year long-term lease for an 18-space lot near the trail diamond, drawing pushback from member Charles Russo, who said "if you design for cars, what you get is more cars." Sheehan reported a new 41-month natural gas contract expected to save $30,000 annually.
