Select Board · Meeting of September 15, 2026

Sudbury's Select Board approved a Massachusetts DEP grant to host a regional waste coordinator and opened a lengthy debate on reserve policy. The board voted 5-0 to host the three-year coordinator position, with Assistant Town Manager/Finance Director Victor Garofalo saying the arrangement leaves the town "net positive" after a $40,000 state stipend. Members spent over ninety minutes debating free cash and stabilization fund targets, with Vice-Chair Radha Gargeya presenting 20 years of reserve data and Garofalo cautioning that "free cash is not an appropriation." A Candy Hill Road resident's request to buy 7,000 square feet of conservation-buffer town land near Old Sudbury Road drew questions from members Charles Russo and Daniel Carty about long-term zoning effects and was referred to staff.

The board also approved amended June 30 minutes 5-0, correcting a voting-member error, and began discussing possible weekend town meetings and bylaw changes with no vote taken.
