Sudbury Select Board sets March 17 joint interviews to fill School Committee vacancy

SUDBURY — March 11, 2025 — Sudbury Select Board sets March 17 School Committee interviews and hears three citizen petitions. Chair Jennifer Roberts announced a joint session with the School Committee to interview five applicants for the seat vacant since January 21, following the four-question format used in 2022. Rami Elwan of the Energy and Sustainability Committee, joined by DOER regional coordinator Dylan Patel, reported that only 14 homes have been built by 10 contractors in Sudbury over four and a half years, with the proposed specialized stretch code adding roughly $24,000 — about a 1 percent increase — on a $2 million new build. Member Daniel Carty pressed Elwan on prior statements that solar was not required and cited a state DPU decision reducing Mass Save by $500 million. Ralph Tyler presented Article 55, revising the senior means-tested exemption so a failed three-year renewal would not permanently void the 2016 special act, and Article 56, a debt-exclusion override raising about $1 million per year for walkways with eminent domain authority. Carty called the eminent-domain provision a "non-starter." Four Pine Lakes residents urged the board to oppose Article 46, a $450,000 CPC allocation to the Sudbury Housing Authority for a duplex project now projected at $4.2 million.
