Sudbury Select Board sets 1.41 tax shift factor pending DOR certification

SUDBURY — December 5, 2023 — Sudbury Select Board sets 1.41 tax shift and launches 250th-anniversary committee. The board voted 5-0 for a residential factor of 0.9698 and a CIP shift of 1.41 — contingent on Department of Revenue certification — producing a $14.54 residential rate and a $21.15 commercial rate against an overall FY24 levy of $105,157,662, a 6.2 percent jump. Harold Scheid of Regional Resources Group said the average single-family bill will rise 4.3 percent and the median bill 5.1 percent on a $870,500 median value despite roughly 13 percent valuation growth. The senior means-tested exemption was capped at 0.5 percent of the residential levy after Director of Assessing Cynthia Gary reported 85 grants totaling about $378,000, averaging $4,400 per applicant. The board also unanimously established the Sudbury 250 Committee; Town Manager Andy Sheehan said he will pencil roughly $25,000 of seed money into the FY25 budget as a separate warrant article. The classification hearing was continued to December 12.
