Sudbury Select Board endorses Camp Sewataro expansion in split 3-2 vote

SUDBURY — October 11, 2022 — Sudbury Select Board endorses Camp Sewataro camper expansion in 3-2 vote. Chair Charles Russo, Daniel Carty and Jen Roberts approved a letter to the Zoning Board of Appeals supporting the operator's request, while Lisa Kouchakdjian and Janie Dretler dissented. Kouchakdjian, elected after the 2021 contract vote, called it "highly inappropriate" to be "contractually obligated to vote a certain way" and said she saw "zero progress" on promised accessibility improvements. Before voting, the board released a KP Law opinion from attorney Lee Smith concluding ADA Title II applies to the town as owner and Title III to Camp Sewataro LLC. Separately, the board voted 4-1 to add $125,000 in ARPA funds toward a roughly $225,000 hybrid 15-passenger Park and Rec van, with Carty opposed. Consultant Bernie Lynch said 25 candidates applied for town manager, with finalists due Nov. 1.
