Planning Board continues Sudbury Crossing tree replanting hearing to October 26

SUDBURY — October 12, 2022 — Sudbury Planning Board continues Sudbury Crossing landscaping modification after abutters object. Phillips Edison representative Tony Hafflinger asked the board Wednesday to substitute new arborvitae — 10 at 12 to 14 feet, four at 10 to 12 feet, and five at 18 to 20 feet — for trees originally slated to be relocated, after his arborist warned the transplants would not survive. Director of Planning Adam Duchesneau said staff backed the substitution as consistent with the site plan's 14-tree minimum. Board member Justin Finnecum pushed for staggered planting and native species, warning a straight row means "you do a row and one dies, it's like a missing tooth." Abutter Kevin Westerberg said the cleared lot left him hearing Route 20 from his backyard. The board voted unanimously to continue to October 26 so the applicant can revise the plan with staff.
