Lincoln-Sudbury superintendent Bella Wong will not seek contract extension

SUDBURY — October 11, 2022 — Lincoln-Sudbury Superintendent-Principal Bella Wong will not seek a contract extension, ending a 20-year tenure. Wong told the regional school committee Oct. 11 that "after some consideration" she had decided to step aside, capping a decade as superintendent and another decade earlier in her career at the school. The committee credited her with building the district's Beacon, LINCS, ACE, Excel and Partners special-education programs and with steering the school through COVID-19. Member Kevin moved to direct staff to draft an RFP for a search firm, citing a "competitive hiring environment," but the motion was tabled to Oct. 25 because it was not posted on the agenda. The committee also received 2021 Metro West Adolescent Health Survey results showing 23 percent of 1,409 students reported a depressive episode in the past year and 17 percent had seriously considered suicide, both up sharply from 2018.
