Sudbury Select Board appoints Cynthia Howe to Housing Authority after split vote

SUDBURY — June 30, 2026 — Sudbury Select Board picks Cynthia Howe for Housing Authority seat in split 8-1 joint vote. The Select Board and Sudbury Housing Authority met jointly June 30 to fill the vacancy left by Steve Swanger; a motion to appoint Pine Lakes resident Alicia Carrillo failed 3-6 before Cynthia Howe of 36 Birchwood Avenue was appointed through May 2027, with Daniel E. Carty the sole dissenter. Howe, a third-generation Sudbury resident and program compliance administrator at the Medford Housing Authority, spent 10 years on the Sudbury Housing Trust and previously ran the Grafton, Needham, and Wellesley housing authorities. The board also authorized a three-year Regional Housing Services Office agreement at a Sudbury share of $73,987 for FY27, accepted a $28,000 MetroWest Health Foundation grant for the Nourish and Connect Sudbury project, and a $9,000 Sudbury Foundation Senior Center digital-literacy grant. Sen. Jamie Eldridge told the board the Municipal Empowerment Act likely will not pass this session, and Rep. Carmine Gentile said he would not support the Sudbury recall home-rule petition as drafted.
