Sudbury Select Board closes fall town meeting warrant with 14 articles

SUDBURY — August 29, 2023 — Sudbury Select Board closes 14-article fall warrant 4-1 after adding back Route 117 signals and Malone stabilization closeout. Member Daniel Carty cast the lone no vote, objecting that draft articles arrived around 6:15 p.m. the day of the meeting and that the Permanent Building Committee is listed as co-sponsor of a Fairbank supplemental article — expected to draw roughly $250,000 from free cash — without an open-session PBC discussion he could locate. Member Charles Russo successfully argued to restore funding for traffic signals at Route 117 and Mossman Road, drawing from the roughly $1.1 million Malone stabilization fund seeded in 2015, with about $800,000 designated for the signals and the residual transferred to capital stabilization. "It's pretty easy to keep something on the warrant," Russo said, noting the fund has lost roughly 25 percent of purchasing power to inflation. The board also unanimously ratified the firefighters' collective bargaining agreement dated Aug. 15, approved minutes and liaison policies from its subcommittee, and appointed Bok Pang and Richard Weiner to the Capital Improvement Advisory Committee and Elizabeth "Bessie" Stroh to the Transportation Committee.
