Sudbury Select Board approves Oct. 23 town meeting warrant on 4-1 vote

SUDBURY — September 26, 2023 — Sudbury Select Board sends 14-article warrant to Oct. 23 special town meeting on 4-1 vote. Member Daniel Carty cast the lone no vote, objecting to a fee-codification article and to school articles he said had not been reviewed by the School Committee. Town Counsel Lee Smith of KP Law recommended substantive language changes to three Sudbury Public Schools articles — $248,000 for Nixon School roof design potentially eligible for MSBA reimbursement, $232,380 in additional Chapter 70 aid, and roughly $184,000 for out-of-district special education tuition — but Superintendent Brad Crozier asked that original SPS language be retained pending committee review. School Committee Vice Chair Meredith Gerson called the level of edits "very uncomfortable." Member Charles Russo questioned the Nixon article on the warrant at all, calling it the start of "a $10 million roof replacement program" without a completed space needs report. The board also approved six FY24 goals, three financial policies and a response to an Open Meeting Law complaint by resident Manish Sharma.
