Select Board postpones positions on three SPS Special Town Meeting articles

SUDBURY — October 10, 2023 — Sudbury Select Board approves three appointments and four warrant articles ahead of Oct. 23 Special Town Meeting. The board voted 3-2 to appoint John "Jack" Ryan to the Sudbury Housing Trust after Member Dan Carty raised concerns about Ryan's past conduct and asked unsuccessfully to discuss them in executive session; Town Manager Andy Sheehan declined to confirm any staff complaints, calling the matter "akin to a personnel matter that doesn't belong in the public realm." The board postponed positions on three Sudbury Public Schools articles after roughly 90 minutes of questioning of Superintendent Brad Crozier on a roof-design request for the 30-year-old Nixon Elementary School, a request to direct approximately $232,000 in unanticipated Chapter 70 aid to the school budget rather than offset taxation, and a one-time special-education offset. Member Charles Russo pressed for line-item detail on the Chapter 70 funds; Crozier said the district had hired nine staff members since May. Sudbury Access Corp's contract was extended unanimously through Nov. 15, 2026.
