Sudbury's Park and Recreation Commission is pushing for expanded recreation programming, including summer camp operations, at the town-owned Liberty Ledge property.

The Park and Recreation Commission submitted a letter to the Liberty Ledge/Sewataro Advisory Committee, dated August 2026, urging the panel and the Select Board to prioritize recreational use of the property. The letter, read into the record at the committee's Aug. 27 meeting, states the commission "sees unique value in the Liberty Ledge property for the town of Sudbury to access recreational opportunities that promote mental and physical health for all our residents." It adds that the parcel offers features that "complement our other town spaces and unlock new programming possibilities for both active and passive recreation," and that the commission sees potential to realize that benefit "in conjunction with summer camp operations."

The commission said it supports "the park and recreation department's effort to increase formal recreation programming at the Liberty Ledge property" and asked the advisory committee and Select Board to "implement a use agreement and management process for the property that fosters development of park and recreation programs for both active and passive recreation programming now and into the future."

The advisory committee, which has been sorting through roughly 23 options for the property's long-term use, said it expects a Town Counsel legal opinion on the matter after the Select Board's Sept. 1 meeting.
