SUDBURY --

TOWN -- The Park and Recreation Commission, meeting Sept. 30, reported that renovations to the Haskell bathroom and playground are underway. The bathroom has been demolished and rough plumbing completed, with exterior painting started and interior sheetrock and epoxy flooring to follow; playground equipment has been delivered and installation is pending weather, with officials estimating "at least two to three weeks" before both projects are finished and open on the same timeline. Four portable toilets are on site in the meantime. Work at Feely Field is "moving along quite nicely," with most of the earthwork complete despite recent rain delays. The department also onboarded a new aquatics manager who will lead "all things Atkinson pool and diving"; she said she has eleven years of aquatics experience, including at Crystal Lake in Newton. A six-question "flash vote" survey on recreation programming found residents want more weeknight (5 to 9 p.m.) and Saturday afternoon offerings, more fitness and arts and crafts classes, and more programming for teens, while also revealing many residents are unaware of current offerings, prompting the department to pursue new marketing through outlets including the Sudbury Family Network.

YOUTH LEAGUES -- Ski club registration was set to open Friday, Oct. 2, according to the Park and Recreation Commission. Separately, Sudbury Youth Basketball and Sudbury Lacrosse had representatives at this fall's district Open House events, the Sudbury School Committee heard Sept. 28.

COMMUNITY -- The Recreation Department planned a table, including a bouncy house, at a public safety event this Sunday, Oct. 4. The department was also finalizing details on a potential Halloween family dance for Oct. 30 and planning a murder mystery night event in the Fairbank Community Center multi-purpose room, with both expected to be formally advertised in the coming week.
