The Park and Recreation Commission heard Feb. 11 that the pool reopened Friday after a roughly monthlong closure triggered Jan. 8 when Health Director Vivian found combined chlorine above state limits during swim practice. Director Dennis put the UV equipment and electrical work at roughly $50,000 to $60,000 and pegged the shutdown's fiscal hit at about $100,000 in lost lesson and swim-team revenue. Combined Facility Director Sandra Duran disclosed that bids for the planned summer renovation came in well above the $2.35 million voters authorized, citing tariffs on electronics and metal and the tight RFP schedule as suspected drivers. Dennis warned the pool lost 90,000 gallons in a month with no swimmers in it — a leak that "they're going to have to solve" during the August-to-November shutdown "or everything else we do in the pool doesn't really matter."
