Park and Rec approves revolving-fund limits, defers donated lacrosse wall pending pathway design

SUDBURY — January 9, 2025 — Sudbury Park and Rec authorizes revolving-fund limits as pool closure and budget proposal pile up. The commission voted 5-0 on Jan. 9 to approve unchanged FY26 spending limits of $15,000 for the teen center revolving fund, $570,000 for recreation programs, and $150,000 for youth programs. Recreation Director Dennis reported the Atkinson Pool was closed two days running after the Board of Health flagged chloramine levels above range, with shock treatment of 22 one-gallon bottles failing to bring readings down. The SMILE Playground at Haskell will go out to bid this week, with 24 trees coming down and construction targeted for late June through August. Dennis disclosed that town officials had floated shifting his salary and two others into the revolving fund; Vice-Chair Laurie Eliason warned it would be "the beginning of the demise of the park and rec department." A donated Lincoln-Sudbury Youth Lacrosse rebound wall was again deferred pending the accessible pathway design at Haskell.
