Park and Recreation Commission · Meeting of August 17, 2026

SUDBURY — The Sudbury Park and Recreation Commission voted to back a privately funded lacrosse wall and a Liberty Ledge land-use statement. Commissioners approved both items 5-0 at the August 17 meeting, with Chair Mara Huston, Laurie Eliason, Robert "Bobby" Beagan, Ryan Poteat and William Atkeson all voting yes. Resident Zach Kaufman said his group can fund the three-panel, 16-foot lacrosse wall at Haskell Field "entirely privately," with "no need for CPC funds." The commission also adopted a statement urging the Select Board and Community Preservation Committee to protect recreational programming at the 44-acre former Camp Siwataro property.

Huston said she will file three Community Preservation Committee requests this fall totaling roughly $1.3 million to $2.3 million, including $250,000 for a Haskell fitness court and a placeholder of $1 million to $2 million for Davis Field construction. Members debated adding artificial turf at Haskell but took no vote, with Beagan arguing "let them vote" at town meeting instead.
