Park and Recreation Commission approves Atkinson Pool fee increases effective September 1

Park and Recreation Commission · Meeting of July 20, 2026

Sudbury Park and Rec approves Atkinson Pool fee increases and advances Haskell Field designs. The commission voted 5-0 Monday to support a new pool fee schedule and rental agreement taking effect September 1, raising adult daily passes from $12 to $15 for residents and $20 for non-residents, restructuring lane rentals into a three-tier system that charges private businesses $65 per lane per hour, and imposing a 14-day no-refund cancellation window. Assistant Town Manager Victor said the changes were vetted by town counsel and the town manager and are the first meaningful increase in five to eight years.

Landscape architect Jonathan Chowick of Activitas told the commission a Haskell dog park is not viable because only about a quarter-acre is available against a one-acre minimum, and that a lacrosse wall would run roughly $100,000 in precast sections plus footings. Chair Mara Huston set an August deadline for the commission to decide multi-sport court striping, splash pad siting, and lacrosse wall placement. Sudbury Girls Softball president Lisa Lentz told the commission that Curtis Middle School's field condition has become unusable: "We've given up even trying to use Curtis."
