Park and Rec backs pool repairs as bids return higher than expected

SUDBURY — April 14, 2025 — Sudbury Park and Rec hears 12 residents back Atkinson Pool repairs as rebids near. Combined Facilities Director Sandra Duran walked the commission through a retooled $2.35 million infrastructure scope: a contracted $300,000 EPDM roof starting Sept. 1, base-bid replacement of two of four dive-well skimmers, 420 square feet of deck tile repair, and ranked add-alternates led by lap-pool leak detection. HVAC bids rose from $579,000 to $611,000 between rounds, which Duran attributed to tariff exposure on aluminum, copper and semiconductors. Director Dennis Mannone, citing a March leak of 154,000 gallons, warned a four-week September shutdown would gut fall revenue: "We can't handle much more shutdowns." Member Granger Poteat's mid-meeting presentation to the Finance Committee flipped its position on a $150,000 Community Preservation Committee article 7-2 in favor.
