Sudbury PBC endorses geotech compromise to keep Fairbank foundation work moving

SUDBURY — August 17, 2022 — Sudbury Permanent Building Committee backs geotech compromise on Fairbank to avert foundation delay. The committee voted unanimously Wednesday to endorse a Weston and Sampson-developed compromise that would over-excavate unsuitable fill only within the zone of influence below footings, while allowing proof-rolled fill to remain beneath the slab on grade, and authorized the project team to direct contractor Colantonio Inc. to proceed under protest if needed. OPM Chris of Compass Project Management estimated the town's cost exposure at roughly $30,000 if a protest succeeds. Co-Chair Craig Blake, a former licensed site professional, said the approach was "in the town's best interest." In a separate vote, the committee declined a $5,750 proposal to pre-survey 17 neighboring properties for vibration damage claims; member Jennifer Pincus abstained. The Hudson Road water main is complete at just over $95,000 against $400,000 in allocated ARPA funds.
