Sudbury PBC awards $163,998 Fairbank drainage contract to Woodall
SUDBURY — September 3, 2024 — Sudbury PBC awards $163,998 Fairbank drainage contract, bypasses apparent low bidder. The Permanent Building Committee voted 5-0 Tuesday to award Woodall Construction Co. the Fairbank Community Center site drainage contract and to accept the withdrawal of Northeast Weathered Services LLC's $82,000 low bid as a clerical error. Vertex project executive Christopher Eberly told the committee Northeast failed to acknowledge addenda and left the paving alternate blank, calling the omission disqualifying alongside references limited to "$28,000 to $32,000" landscape jobs. The committee also assented to releasing roughly $42,000 in retainage held from general contractor Colantonio Inc. over acoustic complaints, after Vertex and town counsel concluded the contract did not support holding the cost back. Architect Thomas Scarlata is pursuing a two-by-two ceiling-tile remediation in place of an earlier $275,000, 17-week partition-extension fix. The town's share of an unrelated barn-door change order came to $20,758.
