Permanent Building Committee recommends two new members, splits on Bell appointment

SUDBURY — October 1, 2024 — Sudbury building committee splits 3-2 on Kay Bell, unanimously backs John Mann for member seats. The Permanent Building Committee on Oct. 1 voted to recommend the two applicants to the Select Board, with Co-Chair Craig Blake moving both motions. Co-Chair Elaine Jones and member James Kelly voted against Bell, citing her lack of construction and design experience as the committee shifts toward roofing and mechanical projects; member Jennifer Pincus and a member identified in the meeting as Anu joined Blake in supporting her. Mann, a Boston high-rise site superintendent, was approved 5-0 for a three-year term. Combined Facilities Director Sandra Duran separately reported the DPW solar and metal-roof project would resume after a roughly $39,000 change order covering a manufacturer-required clip installation procedure across more than 1,000 clips, with the work still under the original $400,000 town meeting appropriation supplemented by $100,000 from the Energy and Sustainability Committee. A third applicant, Rob Duker, again did not appear.
