Sudbury PBC approves up to $673,000 for Fairbank kitchen and furniture

SUDBURY — December 8, 2022 — Sudbury Permanent Building Committee locks in roughly $673,000 in Fairbank equipment orders before 2022 escalation. Members voted unanimously to authorize up to $179,000 for a commercial kitchen — including a high-temperature dishwasher that runs about $7,850 over the $171,060 line — while deferring a $63,428 package of convection oven, steamer, warming cabinet and ice maker for later funding. The committee also authorized BH+A to purchase furniture off the state contract up to $494,000, about $30,000 over budget after the senior center opted to reuse existing chairs. On the soil protest with Colantonio, the committee accepted a $54.34-per-cubic-yard unit price 3-0 with member Mark abstaining; he said the panel lacked expertise to evaluate the figure. A $100,000 state earmark from Rep. Carmine Gentile will fund basketball court fencing and lighting, with BH+A authorized up to $5,000 to design the work. Architect Joel said deferred kitchen items are "just a matter of going out and buying the equipment" because infrastructure is already roughed in.
