Sudbury opens comment period on open space plan
Sudbury's Planning & Community Development Department is accepting public comments on the draft update to its Open Space and Recreation Plan through Oct. 22, 2026.
The Town of Sudbury's Planning & Community Development Department announced Oct. 15 that it is accepting public comment on a draft update to the town's Open Space and Recreation Plan.
The department says the plan, once finished, will lay out how the town prioritizes protecting natural resources, preserving land, running recreational programs and developing recreational land. The current update covers a 10-year action plan setting open space, conservation and recreation goals.
The public comment period on the draft plan closes Oct. 22, 2026.
A presentation on the draft plan and a public input session were held Oct. 15 at 7 p.m. in a hybrid format, with an in-person option at the Fairbank Community Center Multipurpose Room, 40 Fairbank Road, and a virtual option through Zoom.
The release describes an Open Space and Recreation Plan as a tool to help the town identify goals for open space parcels and a path to achieve them. Listed potential goals include protecting the town's water supply, protecting wildlife and critical habitats, preserving the town's character, providing active and passive recreation opportunities, developing trail linkages for non-motorized recreation, and maintaining town-owned lands for residents' enjoyment.
Earlier input opportunities tied to the update have already closed, including a Field Notes activity for residents and open house and town forum sessions held in May and February.
