Sudbury Council on Aging votes to seek end of its term limits, add two alternates

SUDBURY — November 10, 2025 — Sudbury Council on Aging votes unanimously to seek elimination of its term limits and add two alternate members. Chair Paul Marotta moved the recommendation Monday after a subcommittee led by members Joel Bauman and Carmine Gentile reviewed practices in four neighboring towns and concluded the COA is the only Sudbury board with term limits. The proposed warrant article would seat nine full members and two alternates on three-year terms, with the chair empowered to seat alternates in cases of absence or conflict. "Do you want to be on a committee where you don't have voting ability?" Bauman asked, explaining why the panel rejected non-voting "associate" status. The board missed the warrant deadline for an upcoming Special Town Meeting on school roof replacements and will target the spring Annual Town Meeting. Member Anna Newberg also announced her resignation for medical reasons.
