Council on Aging · Meeting of September 14, 2026

SUDBURY — The Sudbury Council on Aging voted 6-0 to adopt a resolution calling for an independent land-use study of the town's Liberty Ledge property, including senior housing. Jeff Levine, president of the Friends of Senior Citizens of Sudbury, told the board the town paid $11,269,700 for the 44-acre site in 2019 and now carries $13,352,648.43 in total debt-service costs through 2041, while collecting only $1,867,420 in camp revenue share over six years versus roughly $3.7 million for the camp operator. Levine proposed up to 44 age-restricted units on about 11 unused acres, projecting $4.4 million for recreation upgrades and $40 million added to the tax base.

"Why did the town leadership give him this deal?" Levine asked. Camp liaison Kristen Drumey objected during public comment, saying "there was a lot of information that he presented there that was inaccurate." The board separately approved updated Sudbury Connection van ride-policy language prioritizing medical trips.
