Sudbury Council on Aging endorses Article 55 senior tax exemption renewal

SUDBURY — April 14, 2025 — Sudbury Council on Aging unanimously backs Article 55 to preserve senior tax exemption. The board endorsed the May 5 town meeting article that would let Sudbury renew its means-tested senior property tax exemption locally if it ever lapses, sparing a return to the legislature. State Rep. Carmine Gentile, a council member, said roughly 110 households qualify annually and disclosed the program and state circuit breaker together save him about $5,000 a year. The council also unanimously approved Joel Bauman and Mary McLaughlin as new members and welcomed incoming member Jane Keilty, who begins voting in June. Incoming Senior Center Director Nicole Boardman, currently with Groton's COA, starts April 30. Transportation liaison Bob Lieberman warned that two grant-funded ride programs — the hospital shuttle and Sudbury Community Catch Connect — sunset in June or July, with a $50,000 state supplemental appropriation possibly bridging part of the gap.
