Council on Aging recommends Jane Keilty, accepts 2024 annual report

SUDBURY — March 10, 2025 — Sudbury Council on Aging recommends new member as transportation contracts head toward June cliff. The board on March 10 voted unanimously to forward retired nurse Jane Keilty to the Select Board for appointment and accepted the 2024 Senior Center annual report. Most of the meeting focused on the looming June expiration of contracts for the town's Uber subsidy, taxi program and hospital shuttle, which together serve residents 60 and older and residents with disabilities or financial need. Member Bob Lieberman, the Transportation Committee liaison, said the dispatch service Sudbury uses through Acton has doubled in cost from $9,000 to $18,000 and warned that without a budget line, "there is going to be no taxi service in the town any longer." Member Patricia Tabloski pushed back on framing the question as a school-versus-senior tradeoff, arguing "what's good for older adults is good for everyone in town." Members also heard a citizens petition from resident Ralph Myers on Article 55, a tweak to the senior means-tested tax exemption used by roughly 110 to 115 Sudbury households.
