Sudbury Conservation Commission orders Wayside Inn to restore unpermitted parking expansion

SUDBURY — December 8, 2025 — Sudbury Conservation Commission issues enforcement order against Wayside Inn Foundation over unpermitted parking expansion. Conservation Coordinator Lori Capone told the commission Dec. 8 that staff discovered a parking-lot extension behind the beer barn at 72 Wayside Inn Road on Nov. 11, built almost entirely in the buffer zone and partly in the riverfront area with asphalt millings incorporated. Capone stopped the work, required immediate erosion controls and issued a notice of violation; the unanimously approved enforcement order sets a Dec. 20 restoration deadline, though frozen ground may push seeding to spring. The commission also continued a year-old after-the-fact case at 182 Wayside Inn Road, where applicant Andrew Leveroni proposed clearing 7,500 square feet of invasive bittersweet, Norway maple, burning bush and buckthorn to mitigate a 2,500-square-foot unpermitted stream crossing. Vice-Chair Kenneth Holtz pushed back: "If you don't replace the invasives with something native, it'll only be replaced eventually by new invasives."
