Conservation Commission approves King Philip Woods restoration order of conditions

SUDBURY — November 17, 2025 — Sudbury Conservation Commission clears King Philip Woods restoration as Prides Crossing house waits on stormwater plan. The commission voted 5-0 on Nov. 17 to issue an order of conditions for a town-led project at 0 Water Row (DEP file 301-1457), presented by Conservation Coordinator Lori Capone, that will remove roughly two to three acres of invasives, re-grade a colonial-era gravel road, reveal the foundations of the "Tavern of the Damned" and add interpretive signage. The project, backed by about $47,000 in Community Preservation Committee funding plus state Fish and Wildlife assistance, will affect 596 square feet of floodplain while netting a 1.2-cubic-yard gain in flood storage. Separately, First Colony Development's 94 Prides Crossing single-family home was continued to Dec. 29 after Capone told owner John Della Briscoli the prior order of conditions tied to the abutting agricultural-preservation parcel must still be closed out with an as-built plan, narrative and stormwater filing. Vice-Chair Kenneth Holtz, who attended the site walk, pressed for a wetland-edge fence and native plantings; "I know what my homework assignment is," Della Briscoli told the commission.
