Sudbury building committee rejects most of contractor's 91-day Fairbank delay claim

SUDBURY — November 10, 2022 — Sudbury panel knocks back 55 days of a 91-day contractor delay claim at Fairbank. The Permanent Building Committee on Nov. 10 reviewed Colantonio Inc.'s October schedule update, which blamed a July 2023 switch gear delivery and earlier soils issues for pushing building turnover from late September to mid-December 2023. OPM project manager Chris told members 55 of the claimed days belong to the contractor under temporary-conditions specs, leaving roughly a one-month slip to Oct. 25. The committee also issued a $25,000 not-to-exceed change directive after a Nov. 2 excavator strike on an unmarked 6-inch PVC fire-service line flooded the site and briefly closed Fairbank Center; co-chair Craig Blake called it "just a bad assumption." Members voted 4-0 to re-elect Blake and Elaine Jones as co-chairs and set a Dec. 7 groundbreaking for the fire station addition. Roughly $175,000 in kitchen equipment will shift from FF&E into the construction contract, partly funded by a $100,000 Friends of the Senior Center grant.
