Select Board votes to support MBTA building lease and stretch energy code

SUDBURY — May 6, 2025 — Sudbury Select Board endorses MBTA building lease and stretch energy code on night two of Town Meeting. Meeting briefly Tuesday at Lincoln-Sudbury Regional High School, the board voted to support Article 43, a $100 nominal appropriation enabling a 99-year lease — and possible eventual purchase — of the section tool house and Sudbury station building from the MBTA for the Historical Commission's rail-trail interpretive plan. Town Manager Andy Sheehan said the arrangement would likely be "a triple net lease" leaving the town responsible for lead paint, asbestos and insurance liabilities. The board re-voted after member Lisa V. Kouchakdjian arrived late. On Article 27, the board approved a written statement drafted by member Charles G. Russo supporting adoption of the specialized stretch energy code, with Vice-Chair Radha R. Gargeya noting "all of our neighboring communities have already done it." The board recessed at 7:30 p.m. to join Town Meeting.
