Permanent Building Committee approves $257,000 pool repair, picks SOCOTEC for DPW roof
SUDBURY — April 13, 2023 — Sudbury PBC approves $257,000 pool-piping repair and selects SOCOTEC to design new DPW roof. The Permanent Building Committee on April 13 unanimously authorized a not-to-exceed $257,000 change order for Colantonio to replace piping around the Atkinson Pool's diving well during the summer shutdown, with work now starting May 11 instead of May 27. Combined Facilities Director Sandra Duran will sign off on the final number. The committee also approved $9,839.47 for early Fairbank network connectivity split between Harbinger Communications and Comcast, settled a long-running geotechnical dispute with a $36,829.05 CP4 approval that closes the issue under the previously authorized $100,000 ceiling, and approved two smaller Fairbank change orders totaling $9,139. For the DPW roof — tied to a planned fall solar installation funded by a $400,000 Town Meeting article — the committee chose SOCOTEC, the former Russo Barr, over Gale Associates, GRLA and Rouse, setting a $30,000 to $35,000 fee ceiling. Co-Chair Craig Blake said fill on the Fairbank site had to be removed because "no one has a mechanism of understanding how compact that fill is." Owner's project manager Neil Joyce reported the fire station addition is 28 percent complete on cost at $1.6 million spent against a $5.83 million budget, still on track for September completion.
