Sudbury HDC continues Concord Road solar case, signals no front-roof panels

SUDBURY — April 13, 2023 — Sudbury Historic Districts Commission rejects front-facade solar on Concord Road bungalow, continues case to May 4. Vice Chair Taryn Trexler, presiding for absent Chair Anuraj Shah, told installer AJ Reese of Future Energy Solar that the commission has never approved panels on the primary front facade of a historic home in a district and would not start with a craftsman bungalow at 285 Concord Road. Member Christopher Hagger cited the commission's guidance that panel counts "should be minimized if too many are to the detriment of the building's appearance"; Reese argued the rail-less, all-black array would "blend right into the roof." The 4-0 continuation gave the Halbert owners until April 27 to submit a revised layout confined to rear and side surfaces. The commission also approved 4-0 a JuiceBox Pro EV charger at the 75 Hudson Road public safety building, a re-roof and upsized gutters at 111 Dutton Road, and a screened porch at 48 Henry's Mill Lane, and accepted withdrawal of a Flynn Building charger application disrupted by a state DPU order.
