SUDBURY — April 18, 2023 — Sudbury Historical Commission designates 1930s rusticated-concrete-block garage at 328 Hudson Road as historically significant. The 7-0 vote on April 18 followed a same-day site visit and research by Chair Christopher Hagger tying the structure to Sears Roebuck and Portland Cement Association catalogs of the 1920s and 1930s; member William S. Andreas called the building "architecturally significant, historically significant, but… not a practical building for modern use." Property owner Victor, citing tree damage and shifted block walls, said at least one wall would need rebuilding and asked whether reusing original blocks and hardware could "satisfy and maintain the legacy" of the garage; condition is not weighed under the bylaw. The commission also voted 7-0 to extend a 196 North Road demolition delay by 60 days and 7-0 to ask Eversource to reroute its transmission line and the bike trail around a newly uncovered 19th-century stone cattle pass — 16 feet long, four feet wide, with a six-foot tunnel — west of Bridge 128.
