Park and Recreation Commission unanimously backs $959,000 pool repair request

SUDBURY — May 1, 2025 — Sudbury Park and Rec backs $959,000 pool repair ask, opposes CPA-cut petition. The Park and Recreation Commission voted 5-0 May 1 to support Article 34, an additional $959,000 borrowing request bringing total Atkinson Pool repair costs to $3,728,797. Combined Facilities Director Sandra Duran and project lead Andy walked members through revised bids opened April 16, including a $1,647,600 base bid, expanded tile work (up to 50 percent), 100 percent re-grouting, replacement of all four end-of-life skimmers, a $150,000 thermaduct addition and a $418,372 contingency raised from 12 to 17 percent after consultation with the Select Board and Finance Committee. "We only want to drain the pool once, and we want to go in and fix it once," town finance representative Victor told the commission. Article 34 requires a two-thirds Town Meeting vote because it is debt-funded. The commission also voted 5-0 to oppose Article 54, a citizen petition cutting the CPA surcharge from 3 percent to 1.5 percent, with Chair Mara Huston noting CPC funding had built Featherland courts, Feeley Field, Haskell Field, the L-S turf fields and the playground now under construction.
