Park and Recreation Commission backs $500,000 Haskell-Fairbank master plan request

SUDBURY — December 2, 2024 — Sudbury Park and Rec endorses $500,000 CPA ask to master-plan Fairbank and Haskell. Combined Facility Director Sandra Duran will pitch the Community Preservation Committee Wednesday on a landscape architect contract that includes roughly $200,000 set aside for a second multi-sport court and $150,000 for a Haskell pavilion, with the balance for accessible pathways. Director Dennis Mannone reported a Field Needs Assessment by Gale Associates kicked off Friday with soil samples, a fee-structure comparison and conceptual layouts targeted for late March; member Robert Beagan asked that bathrooms and courts be added and Mannone said Sereotaro will be inventoried too. Chair Mara Huston, debriefing Monday's Finance Committee presentation, said a $5-per-household tax-levy increase would yield about $24,000 — "the beginning of funding the assistant director position." Town rail trail coordinator Marcia presented a separate signage package for the Parkinson Field driveway, funded through the 2022 Bruce Freeman Phase 2D CPA allocation, with completion targeted for spring.
