Council on Aging sets Jan. 9 soft opening for Sudbury's new senior center

SUDBURY — September 11, 2023 — Sudbury Council on Aging locks in Jan. 9 senior center soft opening and lands $40,625 digital literacy grant. Director Debra Galloway told the council the senior center will vacate its current building by Nov. 10 and move into the new community center on Nov. 20, with tiling and the fireplaces nearly complete. Member Paul Marotta said the Special Events Subcommittee finalized a $2,665 event budget rounded to $3,000 for inflation, to be presented to the Friends on Sept. 28; the Friends have acquired a grand piano, and pianist Wanda Paik has agreed to play at no fee. Galloway announced a $40,625 state Executive Office of Elder Affairs grant for laptops, iPads and tech training. Transportation liaison Bob Lieberman said the committee expanded subsidized taxi service from six to 10 one-way rides per month and thanked state Rep. Carmine Gentile for a $125,000 Go Sudbury earmark. Vice-Chair Patricia Tabloski accepted appointment as secretary, returning to a role she held for about eight years.
