Council on Aging asks Select Board for permanent recognition of $100,000 Cummings grant

SUDBURY — April 10, 2023 — Sudbury Council on Aging seeks permanent recognition of Cummings Foundation's $100,000 senior center gift. The council voted unanimously Monday to ask the Select Board to formally and permanently acknowledge both the Cummings Foundation grant — paid in two $50,000 installments for kitchen equipment at the new Fairbank Community Center — and a Friends of Sudbury Senior Citizens pledge of up to $130,000 for a covered patio and lounge fireplace. Outgoing Chair Jeff cited Wellesley's named-room plaques as a model and warned that a "blurb" proclamation would be insufficient. Members also approved a bylaw rewrite eliminating the formal Nominating Committee requirement, renominated Carmine Gentile and Paul Murano to full terms, and advanced former member Patricia Tabloski to fill an opening in June. Transportation lead Bob Lieberman reported the average taxi ride costs $89 one way and that Uber co-pays now cover 35 percent of February billing.
