Conservation Commission rescinds camp compliance certificate to fix driveway erosion

SUDBURY — January 27, 2025 — Sudbury Conservation Commission rescinds a November certificate of compliance after camp driveway runoff erodes a new berm into a swimming pond. At the Jan. 27 meeting, commissioners voted unanimously to pull back the certificate under DEP File 301-1393 and approve a minor modification adding bituminous berms, 9-inch riprap, a trash rack and an expanded inlet sump in front of an existing 15-inch culvert. Engineer Michael, appearing with facilities director Peter Hilpo, said runoff from "several acres" of uphill camp ground had been "eroding the backside of that berm and eroding all the way down into this swimming pond." Vice-Chair Kenneth Holtz pushed for a deeper sump to protect the downstream fishing pond. Conservation Coordinator Lori reported the commission held 180 hearings and issued 24 orders of conditions in 2024.
