Conservation Commission approves Camp Sewataro algae-treatment modification

SUDBURY — January 6, 2025 — Sudbury Conservation Commission lowers Camp Sewataro's algaecide trigger after a lost swim season. The commission unanimously approved a minor modification to the order of conditions under DEP file 301-1366, dropping the cyanobacteria threshold from 20,000 to 10,000 cells per milliliter, authorizing proactive PAC phosphorus treatment in the swimming pond, and waiving the 48-hour pre-treatment notice for time-sensitive algaecide applications. Director of Operations Emmy Ninimaki told commissioners the camp will now do at least weekly testing: "I don't think anybody expected what we went through to happen." Commissioners also continued the 182 Wayside Inn Road NOI to March 10, advanced warrant articles authorizing up to $50,000 from the wetlands fund (balance about $83,000), $15,000 from trail maintenance (balance about $33,000), and $10,000 from a forestry account, and renewed participation in the SuAsCo CISMA invasives compact with no monetary commitment.
