Conservation Commission clears fence extension near certified vernal pool

SUDBURY — April 24, 2023 — Sudbury Conservation Commission unanimously approves fence extension within vernal pool buffer at 238 Old Lancaster Road. The commission issued a negative determination of applicability on RDA 23-4, filed by Ken and Nancy Lefner, allowing five additional fence sections roughly 40 feet from a state-certified vernal pool. Consultant Lori Capone said the fence will be installed by hand, posts cemented, and lifted six inches off the ground to allow small wildlife to pass. Nancy Lefner told the board she is "sick of having to pick trash up out of the vernal pool" since an abutter's unauthorized clearing opened the view. Members Cook, Holtz, Rogers, Sevier and Chair David Henkels voted in favor; Member Bruce Porter pressed on what species inhabit the certified pool.
