Conservation Commission approves Sewataro algae treatment, two Peakham Road orders

SUDBURY -- June 9, 2025, Sudbury Conservation Commission clears Camp Sewataro algae treatment in mid-meeting vote. The June 9 commission unanimously authorized Wetlands and Waterways to treat the camp's swimming pond after the Board of Health refused to open it with only two feet of water clarity; four feet is required. Vice-Chair Kenneth Holtz's motion also requires the camp to return before reconnecting the swimming pond to its companion fishing pond, which will be disconnected for the summer. Member Bruce Porter questioned the longer-term logic, noting Sewataro has four conventional chlorinated pools on site: "It's not like they don't have a place for the kids to swim." The commission also issued orders of conditions for an after-the-fact pool and addition at 222 Peakham Road (Gil Hudson, with perpetual invasives-removal recorded on the deed) and a deck expansion at 17 Hopestill Brown Road, and certificates of compliance at 82 Washington Drive and 57 Willis Lake Drive, where landscaping over a vernal pool included more than 200 native plantings. Eighth-graders from Curtis Middle School presented a $10,000-to-$15,000 fencing concept for the Lincoln Meadows community garden after a 67-respondent survey found 55.2 percent of residents did not know the garden existed.
