Building committee sets June 21 substantial completion for Fairbank renovation

SUDBURY — April 8, 2024 — Sudbury PBC pushes Fairbank substantial completion to June 21 after arsenic, drainage and Eversource delays. The Permanent Building Committee voted 5-0 Monday to formally extend substantial completion on the Fairbank Community Center renovation from the original March 12 date, citing site work that controls building egress. Members authorized Co-Chair Craig E. Blake to spend up to $50,000 as soils liaison after one sample returned arsenic at 0.29 parts per million against a 0.20 reporting threshold; disposal runs $60 to $75 per ton. The committee approved a $30,753.42 SPS access-control pedestal and a $22,811.18 rear asphalt maintenance loop (4-1, Co-Chair Elaine L. Jones opposed), and authorized Blake to renegotiate a previously rejected $106,994.35 specialty door-hardware change order up to $150,000 after an outside vendor estimated rebidding would top that figure.
