SUDBURY — March 27, 2024 — Sudbury PBC rejects $106,994 Fairbank door hardware change order, sends scope back to bid. The Permanent Building Committee voted 5-0 against Colantonio change proposal CP 143, which would have added card-reader access at four exterior doors and lockable trim at nine more at the Fairbank Community Center. Member James Kelly led the pushback on labor pricing, noting roughly $42,000 in carpentry against $15,000 in hardware materials — "when you're paying seven times the price of the materials, it's just not right." Architect Tom of BH+A had recommended approval; Facilities Director Sandra said separate procurement would take roughly 12 weeks but conceded "I am with you" on potential savings. Co-Chair Craig Blake and Members Jennifer Pincus and Anu joined Kelly and Co-Chair Elaine Jones in voting no.
