Building Committee accepts April 26 opening for Fairbank pool viewing space
SUDBURY — February 21, 2024 — Sudbury's Permanent Building Committee accepts 45-day delay at new Fairbank Community Center. The committee on Wednesday agreed to a April 26 substantial completion for the pool viewing room and recreation entry, after owner's project manager Chris of Vertex said site work needed for code-compliant egress could not be finished by March 12 without expensive winter conditions paving. Co-Chairs Craig Blake and Elaine Jones backed the new date while directing the team to push Colantonio to open the aquatics office and recreation lobby sooner. Members unanimously approved $27,031.67 for full concrete at the bus drop-off (CP 158.1) and $25,453.85 for SudburyTV-related AV closet ventilation (CP 115R), pending mechanical engineer signoff. Roughly $487,000 in contingency remains; a forthcoming drainage change order could approach $200,000. Member Jennifer Pincus also identified an acoustical defect at Sudbury Public Schools partitions built to the ceiling rather than to the deck as detailed — Blake called paying twice for that work "really significant."
