Wayland principal Allison Mizuguchi pitches Lincoln-Sudbury on dual leadership role

SUDBURY — March 29, 2023 — Wayland High principal Allison Mizuguchi makes her case for Lincoln-Sudbury's combined superintendent-principal job. In an hour-long community forum moderated by Kara and Kevin Matthews, Mizuguchi traced a 20-plus-year career at Wayland — English teacher, assistant principal, principal since 2014 — and a current Boston College doctoral program. She said she had previously written off district leadership as too distant from classrooms but found Lincoln-Sudbury's one-school regional structure "fascinating and inspiring, frankly." Pressed on equity by residents including Lucy Malsby of Lincoln, she said Wayland used course-selection data to address underrepresentation of Black and Latino students in upper-level classes and now runs hiring through a "bias checker." She cited adding a clinical counselor, on top of two adjustment counselors, as a post-pandemic mental-health response.
